Autoimmune Oophoritis

Common Name(s)

Autoimmune Oophoritis

Autoimmune Oophoritis is a condition in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the ovaries, which results in their inflammation. This condition can lead to destruction of the ovaries. Signs and symptoms may include: never starting menstruation (primary amenorrhea), stopping menstruation (secondary amenorrhea), infertility, and sex hormone deficiency. An ovarian laparoscopy biopsy can be used to diagnose this condition. At this time, there is no treatment for autoimmune oophoritis that will cure infertility, but hormone replacement therapy may be used if loss of hormones has occurred.
