Churg-Strauss Syndrome

Common Name(s)

Churg-Strauss Syndrome, Allergic granulomatosis

Churg Strauss syndrome is a rare autoimmune condition characterized by asthma, high levels of eosinophils (a type of white blood cell that helps fight infection) in the blood and tissues, and inflammation of small to medium sized blood vessels (vasculitis). The inflamed vessels can affect various organ systems including the lungs, gastrointestinal tract, skin, heart and nervous system. The cause of Churg Strauss syndrome is unknown. While there is no cure, the condition can be successfully managed with early diagnosis and treatment.
