Cerebral Palsy Mixed

Common Name(s)

Cerebral Palsy Mixed

Mixed cerebral palsy presents the unique situation where an individual experiences symptoms of ataxic, athetoid and spastic cerebral palsy. No two individuals with mixed cerebral palsy have the same symptoms. About 10% of cerebral palsy patients exhibit mixed cerebral palsy, with symptoms of two of more of the types of cerebral palsy. The most common combination is symptoms of spastic and athetoid cerebral palsy, but other combinations occur as well. For description of symptoms and treatments, please see ataxic cerebral palsy, athetoid cerebral palsy and spastic cerebral palsy. Often, individuals with mixed cerebral palsy will benefit from a combination of treatments for the other three types of cerebral palsy in order to accomodate individually unique disabilities.
